As the new year beckons, we're also making some changes to our products. Our Organic Nicaragua is out, a new organic coffee is in!
When we launched Freshdrip in 2017, we started out with a selection of seaonally changing single origin coffees that soon turned out to be too funky, fruity or acidic for most people. Then, we faced challenges with sourcing our coffees and keeping the packaging up to date. What was a well-intended attempt to offer specialty coffee lovers a better way to drink coffee on the go had hit a wall.
In 2019, we updated our packaging and products, chosing to work instead with the four coffees that our previous producer had selected for his own range of drip bags. This made it easier for us to maintain high levels of quality, consistency and availability. Since our producer had those coffees in stock all year round, there was no fussing about with sourcing and changing the descriptions.
The Organic Nicaragua was one of the products that we added in this change, though it was officially only launched in early 2022 after we got our own Organic certification. Its goal was to make Freshdrip more attractive to customers who required organic certification (of which there are quite a few) eventhough we already had another medium-strength coffee in our assortment, the red Ethiopia.
In late 2022, our previous producer went out of business due to a legal battle with its landlord and this forced us to move our production to a new partner in Poland. We did our utmost to ensure that our customers didn't experience any disruption to their orders but we also quickly realised that the coffees we had previously worked with were no longer easily available.
This got us to thinking that it might also be time to make another adjustment to our range and give our products a fresh new look. In early 2024, we will introduce our new look and our updated range, which will henceforth only include three variants arranged by strength levels:
- STRONG
- MILD (organic)
- DECAF
We're effectively merging the red Ethiopia medium-strengh with our green Organic Nicaragua medium-strength to create a new organic MILD variant.
As a result, the Organic Nicaragua is from now on no longer available to purchase as we have effectively used up all available foil for this coffee. Once the new variant is available, we'll announce this on our blog.
