The current tourism crisis has been a devastating watershed moment for the hospitality industry and as it currently stands, there is no immediate end in sight.
Hotels all over the world have been left reeling from a horrendous drop in visitor numbers and many are still trying to figure out how to make it to the otherside of this dark tunnel.
At the same time, many have used this as an opportunity to press ahead with renovation works, adjusting their concepts and trying out new things.
One great example of this is our newest hotel partner in Amsterdam, Hotel Arena.
Located on the fringe of the lovely Oosterpark and housed inside a former hospital, Hotel Arena artfully blends the rich heritage of its building with a modern approach to hospitality.
Its restautant Park offers a huge terrace that is often jam-packed with local residents while its beautiful rooms range from cozy maisonettes to luxurious suites.
Hotel Arena had been on our wishlist for many years and after some personell changes that delayed the start of our collaboration, we finally launched our innovative single-serve coffee filters in the rooms over the course of the summer.
As the outgoing Head of Housekeeping Jessica Romeijn put it: "Our mission is to connect with as many local suppliers as possible to showcase to our guests all the best things that our wonderful city has to offer. And that, of course, also includes the coffee."
For years, local coffee roaster Bocca has supplied the beans and equipment to Park but until the recent rennovation of the rooms kicked off, guests still found capsule machines. There was a clear mismatch between the quality and experience offered in the restaurant and the rooms and this had to be addressed.
Ivona Jelecanin, Hotel Arena's Rooms Division Manager explained: "We want our guests to have a really special experience from the moment they walk in until the moment they leave. Having a unique coffee offering in the rooms just adds to that."
Even though occupancy is currently very low, this quiet period offers hotels like this one a brilliant opportunity to wave goodbye to relics of former times and to add a fresh element of innovation to their rooms.
We're excited that they have chosen to offer their guests Freshdrip and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.
